The TechBridgeWorld iSTEP (innovative Student Technology ExPerience) internship program provides Carnegie Mellon students and recent graduates with the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary and globally distributed team to develop needs-based technology solutions in collaboration with developing communities. This iSTEP 2011 final report provides a detailed account of the 2011 internship, the research projects, key findings, and the team's work and overall personal experiences. The iSTEP 2011 internship partnered with Administración Nacional de Educacón Pública (ANEP) in Montevideo, Uruguay to research three projects. The first project created an English literacy practice tool that was accessible on the One Laptop Per Child XO laptops. The second project created a motivating game for students to practice their English literacy skills on Facebook, an online social media site. The third project enabled teachers and other experts to create and manage literacy content that could be used by students on the One Laptop Per Child XO laptops.
